JOEY KING STREET
Toronto, CA
Located on King West in Toronto’s financial district, JOEY King St. occupies a 19,000 sq ft space defined by 30-foot ceilings and the building’s existing stone architecture. With 451 interior seats and 96 patio seats it is the largest store in the Joey Restaurant Group portfolio.
Anchored by a central open kitchen, the layout integrates private dining, lounge seating, and layered dining experiences, unified through finely detailed millwork, walnut finishes, bronze accents, lush landscaping, and a curated art program.
The design balances the scale of the volume with a sense of intimacy— leveraging the column-free plan to create clear sight-lines while introducing architectural volumes to define distinct environments.
A considered lighting strategy supports both the functional demands of the exposed kitchen and the ambient quality of the dining experience, ensuring cohesion across the space.
Arrival unfolds through a wine-bar entry into a lounge anchored by a custom light installation, while a raised dining platform overlooks the room and frames a large-scale triptych artwork.
Sculptural olive trees introduce a canopy layer between lounge and dining, partially revealing a backlit bronze volume above the kitchen.
Flanking dining areas are animated by suspended, star-like lighting and bronze chainmail curtains, enabling both openness and moments of privacy—resulting in a space that feels expansive, immersive, and finely tuned.
